Artist's Comments

My first attempt at a complex digital collage/painting. I'm kinda jazzed about the way it turned out.

Really cool Shell. How do you do that? Do you start out with a real photo or is the whole thing digitaly minipulated? Do you use Photo Shop and did you take classes. I'm scared to death to even ettempt learning how to use this program coz I've heard it's very complex.
You never cease to amaze me.

It's partly a collage of several free use or personal photos. The face is my friend Annie, but she's been morphed and trimmed and repainted so much she's not really recognizable anymore. There are also lots of hand painted elements -- colors, highlights, shading, etc. that are "original" to the piece.

I'm entirely self taught in Photoshop. I use an older version (7.0) simply because I have no real need, as a hobbyist and tinkerer, for a newer version (which I think is currently CS4.) Photoshop is a great program to trial-and-error but it's not a quick learning curve. Books help; specialty magazines help. Tutorials online help. I've used them all to teach myself how to do this or that. There are a million things left for me to discover, though; it is a complex program, but it's learnable, and it's a supremely fun process. Give it a whirl!

Thanks for the nice compliments, both of you. :)
